Lamb Burgers With Yogurt Sauce

Every grilling season home cooks make a ton of burgers and with good reason. They are delicious and easy to make. I am not suggesting you stop making good old-fashioned beef burgers on your gas grill, but if you are looking for an occasional change of pace try these tasty lamb burgers with yogurt sauce.

Ingredients for Four Quarter-Pound Lamb Burgers

1 pound of ground lamb

2 cloves of fresh garlic, minced

1 teaspoon of dried onion granules

1 tablespoon of chopped fresh dill

1/4 teaspoon of sea salt

1/4 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper

4 whole wheat sandwich buns

Yogurt sauce (recipe follows)

Directions

Heat your gas grill to a medium-high temperature.

Combine all the ingredients except for the sandwich buns in a mixing bowl. Mix gently to combine. You don't want to overwork the meat; that will result in a tough texture in the finished burgers. Form the meat into 4 even patties.

Cook the lamb burgers over direct heat for about 2 to 5 minutes per side, depending on how well done you want them to be. Lamb is typically best served rare or medium-rare. Put the cooked lamb burgers on the sandwich buns and top generously with the yogurt sauce. Enjoy

Ingredients for Yogurt Sauce

1/2 cup of Greek-style yogurt

1 small cucumber, peeled

1/2 teaspoon of sea salt

2 tablespoons of chopped fresh dill

1/2 teaspoon of dried garlic granules

Directions

Coarsely grate the cucumber. Put it into a fine mesh strainer with a bowl underneath it. Sprinkle the salt over the top. Allow it to drain for 30 minutes, then press down to squeeze out the extra liquid. Put the drained, grated cucumber into a small mixing bowl along with the yogurt, dill and garlic. Mix well. This will likely make more sauce than you need for 4 burgers, but this can be served over just about any meat such as beef, chicken or pork.
